From the old site
Before this version, ufgator.com ran on WordPress under the line "all things gators and university of florida." Most of it was an automatic news feed. These two ran exactly as written here, exclamation points and all.

BCS National Championship
It’s official! The Gators are in the BCS National Championship Game on Jan 8th, 2009 in Miami, Florida! Congrats to the Gators!
Gainesville, mid to late 90s
These are the places I remember from those years.
Florida Theater
233 W. University Ave., downtown. It opened in September 1928 as Gainesville's only movie house, became the Great Southern Music Hall in 1974, and has mostly hosted dance club nights since 1990. In February 2025 the city commission voted to put it on Gainesville's local historic register.
Purple Porpoise
1728 W. University Ave., across the street from campus. It closed in December 2002.
Leonardo's
Leonardo's by the Slice, 1245 W. University Ave. It opened in 1973 and closed for good on Dec. 16, 2020. There was a second one, Leonardo's Nouvelle, at 706 W. University Ave.
Chinee Takee Outee and Burrito Brothers
Next-door neighbors on 13th Street: Chinee Takee Outee at 14 NW 13th St. and Burrito Brothers Taco Co. at 16 NW 13th St. Falafel King, at 12 NW 13th St., made it three in a row. Burrito Brothers had been around since 1976 without indoor seating until 2015, when it moved into a new building at NW 14th St. and NW 1st Ave. It closed in February 2017.
Also on those blocks
- University Avenue, across from campus: The Swamp, the Salty Dog Saloon (1712), Kotobuki (1702) and Cafe Gardens (1632). The Swamp's building went up in 1994 after a fire destroyed the one before it. The restaurant left it on June 30, 2020.
- 13th Street: El Indio (407 NW 13th St.) and Willy's Corner Cafe (106 NW 13th St.).
- Downtown: Durty Nelly's (208 W. University Ave.), the High Note jazz club (300 W. University Ave.), Lillian's Music Store (112 SE 1st St.), Market Street Pub (120 SW 1st Ave.), the Covered Dish (210 SW 2nd Ave.) and Kesl's Coney Island (210 SE 1st St.).
